Ever had a conversation with a peer *outside* of your own organisation which suddenly sparks ideas, questions your beliefs and uncovers aspects you hadn’t even thought of? It’s my favourite way to learn.
Well, the same concept is extremely useful for IT projects. I get that there’s not always the budget or “need” for outside IT support. But having dealt with bigger businesses, I know too well that their own teams get bogged down with IT projects. And that’s exactly why they really appreciate a second opinion – and can lead to them reconsidering their approach by taking new information into account.
Multitude of Clients = Varied Experience
Speaking from our perspective at @Innovate – we
- work with a range of clients of different sizes and industries
- gather a variety of insights and lived experiences that goes into our knowledge pool
- take those insights to our clients for their projects
So, it’s basically a “we learnt this, so you don’t have to make the same mistakes” sort of situation – especially when we’ve worked with businesses of a similar size/setup.
Fear of Speaking Up
But there’s a different challenge – the internal one. Sometimes, people in your IT team uncomfortable with the thought of speaking up about issues they can foresee in a project. Especially when you onboard someone knew, they’re usually quick to pick up on things – good and bad – that you hadn’t noticed because you’re so involved in the daily business of your organisation.
We’re that “new person” – and our team is not afraid speak up and challenge the status quo. Even if you’ve carried out a type of project before, it’s guaranteed we’ll have done it a few times – across different industries. And we’ll help you find what you’ve missed, what you can do better, and also flag risks that could occur with your planned approach.
I’m very much of the conviction you’ll want to think through a project as thoroughly as you can – and working with someone like us is your best chance at doing so.
